Ramble Trail Preserve
The land bank purchased this property to keep the blufftop Ramble Trail — one of the island’s first trail networks — from disappearing and to expand the protected lands around the abutting Brightwoods Park (owned by the Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation), a glacial ravine of some considerable depth. Cliff steps guide visitors down to the Lagoon Pond’s stony beach.
Follow Winyah Lane 0.6 miles from its intersection with the Vineyard Haven - Edgartown Road and turn right here onto Weaver Lane. Follow Weaver Lane to its end at the shellfish hatchery; trailhead is adjacent.
- the preserve abuts a subdivision known as Oklahoma, which was designed in the late 1800s as a New York City actor’s resort; plans called for a “lake ramble” to run atop the Lagoon Pond bluff with views over to Oak Bluffs
