Cove Meadow Preserve

Size

72.1 acres

Description

One of the privileges that Martha’s Vineyard enjoys in having a land bank is that remote areas can be made available for public appreciation — and then be made to feel even more remote. This prevails here, where the land bank set about undeveloping the high ridgeline above the Cape Poge Pond. Five houses have now been removed — some were salvaged off-premises while others were used by island police and fire personnel for their various training exercises — and what remains is a windswept grassland overlooking the expanse of the saltwater.
