Little Field Preserve

Size

24.6 acres

Description

Roadside farmfields typify the Vineyard and distinguish it from Cape Cod and Nantucket. Such fields happen to cluster in particular along the State Road, on its route from Vineyard Haven to Aquinnah; the stretch in West Tisbury in the vicinity of the Panhandle is a prize example. In 2010 the land bank purchased 25 acres here, which included a roadside hayfield, abutting the existing 87-acre Square Field conservation area. In time the property will serve as a trail link between the State and Old Courthouse Roads; in the meantime hikers are asked to honor directional signs, as this preserve is not yet open to the public.

Access

Begin in North Tisbury at the intersection of the State and North Roads. Follow the State Road south 0.4 miles; preserve is on the left.

Scenic vista only: no trailhead or trail.
